ACTIVITY COURSES

What is the difference between a residential & non-residential weekend?
Short Weekend courses begin at 09.00 and finish at 17.00 for day one and for day two. Within the two days both the practical and theoretical aspects of the course must be completed.

Long Weekend courses have a similar timetable during the day but the whole day is spent on the water. The theory part of the course is instructed during an evening session. This allows the maximum time on the water learning new skills. These courses can be residential or non-residential.

What do I need to wear?
Lots of warm, old clothing, fleeces are good, jeans are not appropriate. You should bring an old pair of trainers that you are prepared to get wet and muddy. A swimsuit and a towel are necessary for all watersport courses. Warm hat and gloves are essential during the winter. During the summer a sun hat, sun cream and sunglasses are all required. A waterproof jacket is recommended for all courses, these can be hired at GWC along with waterproof bottoms. Always bring a full change of clothes. Grafham Water Centre provides all specialist equipment, such as buoyancy aids and wetsuits.

What happens if the weather conditions are not suitable?
If the conditions are not suitable for the activity at points during the weekend then the programme will be changed with regards to timings of when the theory and practical sessions will take place.

At worst the course may be cancelled, in this case a voucher will be issued for the balance of the course.

Am I insured against cancellation?
See Important Information in the Booking Form.
Do I need experience?
For taster days, level one and Private tuition no experience is necessary, just come and have a go. For higher level courses we recommend you refer to the appropriate National Governing Body literature and follow their guidelines or call us.
What does the course include?
All practical and theory work from the relevant National Governing Body syllabus. All specialist equipment is provided. All courses include lunch and as many cups of tea and coffee as you can drink! For residential courses an evening meal and accommodation is provided on the first day as well as breakfast the next morning.
