Last weekend, Grafham Water Centre opened their doors to over 250 people from across Cambridgeshire, for a special family day for local children with disabilities and their families.
The family fun day gave young people a chance to make use of the new facilities at the Centre which enabled wheelchair users to be hoisted into canoes, specially equipped powerboats, sailing dinghies and slings to experience the thrill of a climbing wall.
The free event was arranged in partnership with Action for Children and showcased the opportunities and activities available to families with disabled children in Cambridgeshire.
One parent commented “The whole family has had a great day and we as parents have been able to relax secure in the knowledge that the staff on site were aware of our children’s needs and could deal with them. As our 4 year old says it’s been the best day ever”.
Over the past 18 months Aiming High has substantially funded improvement works to the Centre which have included specialist changing facilities, a special needs suite which has an overhead tracking system to a fully equipped bathroom, specialist activity equipment including mechanical hoists and trolleys, specialist harnesses, support equipment, transfer devices and a tandem bicycle.
