As a provider for high quality outdoor learning we recruit individuals to join our team and inspire young people. If you love the outdoors and want to help us create unforgettable experiences for young people, then Grafham Water Centre is the place for you!

There are a whole range of job roles and career opportunities at the Centre. Each requires a different level of skill and experience. Within our team we have various departments – administration, sales, marketing, catering, housekeeping, maintenance and programme/activity instructors.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Would you like to experience a day in the life of a GWC team member? Look no further...

We offer work experience placements across our different roles to give the best experience of what we offer at Grafham. We aim to make the experience as close to applying for a job as possible by inviting you to come along for a mock interview with our friendly team. 

You’ll be shadowing and helping on activity sessions with instructors who are passionate about outdoor education. This can be from helping on a sailing session to help lead a group mountain biking. You’ll also be helping with the daily running of the centre such as getting rooms ready for groups and helping maintain the facilities we provide. 

No two days are the same here and there’s no such thing as a boring day here.

We are always looking for committed and skilled volunteers to support in all aspects of Grafham Water Centres work and join our community. 

The centre is a people focused organisation and this includes all our participants, staff and our volunteers 

We value people who bring additional skills and abilities to the Centre, enabling us to have the capacity to provide quality services and activities. 

Volunteering can be fun, rewarding and even help you to gain new skills.  Our volunteers bring a unique skill set which they can apply here at the centre, We have a wide range of groups who come and volunteer their time. The jobs they have done include-:  Painting, gardening, teaching sailing, maintenance and many more. There are lot of people with different skill sets, that have proved valuable whilst volunteering at Grafham.

This work has helped build teamwork, self confidence and the feeling of a job well done.

  • From assisting at an event, activities and maintenance, grounds work, or even driving our minibus, helping our catering team or housework team your support will help us to provide a better service for our customers and schools.

Typical volunteer roles could include:

 

  • Supporting or instructing our outdoor activities - Sailors, paddlers, powerboat drivers and people with a keen interest and passion delivering activities within an outdoors environment.
  • Supporting people with learning and physical disabilities - Supporting Centre staff to deliver activities for people with learning and physical disabilities, through both our activities and holiday programmes.
  • Volunteering with our local Sailability organisation who run disabled sailing
  • Fundraising - Support with fundraising events and researching funding opportunities for aspects of the Centre.
  • Maintenance Work - Help keep our activities equipment, buildings and grounds ship-shape by cleaning, painting and general DIY.

Freelance Instructors

Can't work for us full-time or part-time but have some spare days to work and are qualified in at least one outdoor instructor qualification? Look no further!

We look to work with everyone we can and recognise that flexible working patterns are a priority for some people. Anybody who wants to work with us is welcome to apply using the link below, which is part of our fair recruiting process. Upon successful application, we will organise an interview with you, part of which will be asking about your working pattern. We can offer a variety of contracts; 2-5 days a week as well as zero-hour, Relief Instructor, positions. We will work with you to determine the best contract for you and staff you accordingly. There will be an induction and training period to ensure that you can come in and run activities when available

The centre has a range of outdoor activities which run on site and on the Grafham Water Reservoir. The activities include Canoeing, Bushcraft, Climbing, High Ropes, Archery, Problem Solving and many others.

We are currently seeking freelance instructors who would be able to complement our existing staff in the busy seasons. The ideal candidates would have a relevant background in teaching young people and have a range of outdoor qualifications with at least one of the following; CWI, Archery GB, BC PSI, and a minimum 8hr first aid qualification. Other relevant qualifications will be considered, this is not an exhaustive list.
