Grafham Water Centre has been running for over 50 years with an excellent reputation for our friendliness and professionalism. We have a fantastic range of both water sports and activity training courses available, all of which are listed on this website.
Whether you are a complete novice or would like to achieve instructor qualifications, we can provide the course for you.

+Sailing Introduction £95 Per Person
Never tried sailing before? Our Introduction sessions will help you master the basics and get you afloat. Choose either a Full Taster Day or Half Day. Full day starts at 09.30am through to 4.30pm. Bring a packed lunch with you. Taster sessions are designed for people aged 15 years and older.
+RYA Start Sailing Level 1 £210
Learning to sail can be the start of something new and exciting. This two day beginner course will take you through the basics. You will learn how to rig the boat and turn round safely. Please let us know when booking if you wish to take the course in a crewed dinghy. Please bring your own packed lunch both days. Timings: 09.30hours to 17.00 hours each day
+RYA Basic Skills Level 2 £205
An ideal follow up for those who have completed Level 1 or who have some sailing experience. We aim to give you in-depth tuition in sailing the boat effectively round a triangular course and some basic seamanship manoeuvres. By the end of this two day course you should be well on your way to becoming a competent sailor in good conditions. This course can also be run as personal tuition, please contact us for more information. Please bring your own packed lunch both days. Timings, 9am to 5pm both days
+Windsurf Introduction
Never tried windsurfing before? Our instructors will keep the technical jargon to a minimum and help you master the basics in a friendly, informal setting. Introduction sessions are designed for people aged 15 years and older. . Please make sure you bring a packed lunch with you on the day
+RYA Start Windsurfing, £210
You will learn about personal preparation, balancing the board and turning through the wind, with plenty of practical time on the water. Back up sessions on safety, equipment and sailing theory will ensure you get the most from your two day course. Please bring your own packed lunch both days. +RYA Intermediate Windsurfing, £210
To progress from RYA Start Windsurfing Course, this more advanced qualification will help you fine tune basic skills and make your windsurfing faster and more fluid. New techniques such as the beachstart and harness work will also be taught. Please bring your own packed lunch both days.
+RYA Powerboat Level 2, £300
This two day course will provide you with all your essential boat handling skills. You will cover launching and recovery, boat handling, boat maintenance and emergency procedures following the RYA syllabus. Suitable for people aged 16 and above. You can also complete your RYA ICC CEVNI qualification as part of this course for an extra fee of £45, To complete this, please bring with you a passport photo, a copy of your passport and payment made payable to the RYA. Alternatively the RYA membership for the year is also £45, and the ICC would then be free as this is included as membership benefit. +Paddlesports Introduction, £48 Per Person
Never tried canoeing or kayaking before? Our taster sessions will help you master the basics and get you out on the water. The Start Award is exactly what it says on the tin, it’s a place to start your paddling journey. If you’re brand new to the sport and really want to learn the basics to get started, then this is the award for you. You’ll cover everything from getting in and out of the boat, what you need to wear and paddling forward. We will be running half day paddle tasters in kayaks, canoes and SUPs, where you will get recognition in the form of an E certificate after completion. Taster sessions are designed for people aged 15 years and older.
+Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP), £48 Per Person
Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is a new sport which is growing from strength to strength and is becoming extremely popular which is why we've given you more opportunities to try this sport at Grafham Water Centre this year!. It is great fun and is good for improving your fitness and agility. Sessions run in the afternoon and are suitable for everyone over the age of 15.
+Beginners Climbing Course (Adults), £80
This beginners climbing course is for those who are keen to learn the basics of indoor climbing and develop the necessary competence to enable them to join Grafham Climbing Club. The course includes 8 hours of instruction over 4 consecutive weeks from 19:00 - 21:00 and will cover all the fundamental skills required to climb in an indoor environment.
+RYA Better Sailing Level 3
On completion, the successful sailor will be safety conscious and capable of sailing without an instructor on board in light to moderate conditions. This improver course seeks to bridge the gap between RYA Basic Skills (Level 2) and the five Advanced Modules by offering an introduction to the different modules, allowing sailors to select their preferred route within the sport.

+RYA Seamanship Skills
On successful completion of this course you will be capable of manoeuvring a dinghy in a seamanlike manner and making seamanship decisions in moderate conditions. It will be assumed that when starting the course you have already mastered the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge required for the previous levels.

+RYA Sailing with Spinnakers
On successful completion of this course you will understand how to sail a dinghy rigged with an asymmetric or symmetric spinnaker. It is assumed when starting this course you have already mastered the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge required for previous levels.

+RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC) Cevni Test (16+)
The Powerboat Level 2 Course can be used as a practical session for this test, recognised for inland waterways. Please mention when booking your Level 2 Course that you wish to complete the CEVNI test and ask about recommended reading. After sucessful completion, an additional fee is payable to the RYA (this is free for RYA Members). Please contact us for more details.
