Accessibility

Grafham Water Centre believes that Outdoor Activities should be accessible to all abilities.

Since the Centre welcomed the first wheelchair user for a school residential visit many years ago, it has improved in most respects of providing access to both the buildings, facilities and the activities.

The accommodation is a modern respite suite with specialist bed, overhead tracking system with electronic hoist, raising/lowering sink and bath and disabled toilet. The suite has other beds to enable a student to share the residential experience with their friends.  The Centre has two shower rooms which are specifically designed for access by all abilities.

The Centre has good facilities to allow access to the most parts of the building. This includes a stair lift, ramps, drop kerbs and widened doors.

We work in partnership with teachers, leaders, parents and support staff to provide realistic challenges in an outdoor residential setting. We are proud that sessions such as sailing, canoeing, climbing, high ropes and biking are now accessible to most abilities and that the Centre hosts special schools for residential visits on a regular basis.

A variety of specialist activity equipment is also available which includes hoists, all terrain wheelchair, support seats, specialist harnesses, hand and arm support equipment.
